The Predictive Ability of High School General Point Average, Standardized Test for English Proficiency, and Type of High School to Foresee the Academic Success of Saudi EFL Freshmen

Although many studies have examined the ability of admission tests and High School General Point Averages to predict academic performance, they are not in agreement whether or not, these two measures an entirely sufficient criterion foretell college learning success. In addition, there seems be a gap literature concerning using type high school (private public) student attends as supportive measure criteria mentioned above. This study tried answer research question, which is: what extent can student’s point average, test, he attended his performance? The carries considerable significance it cast light on some factors that may success student. investigated predictive capability students’ general averages, is Standardized Test for English Proficiency, freshmen’s defined by their at end first year. present utilized regression analysis analyze data 100 students who finished year languages translation, Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University, Saudi Arabia. findings indicated test was best predictor performance. contrast, surprisingly, HSGPAs had little determining attainment students. Thus, suggested entry considered essential college.
